Agapi Insight strives to be a spiritual sanctuary for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender,
and questioning (LGBTQ) Christians, where we can experience the truth that human
condemnation is powerless, and we are All created in Godβs perfect image. Agapi
Insight seeks to give all honor and glory to God with time for prayer, reflection, learning,
and rejoicing. This sanctuary welcomes all LGBTQ individuals and their families and
friends, regardless of their church affiliations and personal beliefs.
We also welcome anyone who feels βin-processβ and is longing for a spiritual home
where it is okay to ask questions. We are all in different places on our journey, so we
welcome you to come as you are. Each of us has a story that is unique and can
contribute something that no one else can. We are here to be Church family, supporting
one another, learning from one another, and above all: trusting in Godβs unconditional
love (Agapi) for each of us, in all parts of who we are.
Agapi Insight upholds traditional Christian views according the Bible as well as the
Apostles Creed and Nicene Creed. Agapi Insight affirms all loving, committed,
monogamous relationships, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. We
believe that this view is consistent with the teachings of Jesus and faithful Bible-
believing Christianity.
In alignment with the positions of our denomination (ELCA), we believe in full inclusion
of people of all sexual orientations and gender identities in the body of Christ and the
life of the church. We believe that homosexual, bisexual, transgender, gender non-
conforming, intersex, and queer people should not be excluded from taking communion,
religious marriage, church leadership, teaching and preaching, or pastoral callings.
Agapi Insight believes isolation and harm is not what God wants for his children. We
believe that in Christ we belong to one another, that we need each other in the journey,
and when we come together, even the hardest things are made easier. Whatever our
beliefs or backgrounds may be, we are all learning together and we donβt have to have it
all figured out.
Agapi Insight organizes, gathers together, builds community, and puts on events that
support LGBTQ individuals and their loved ones, to educate our congregation and
community about LGBTQ inclusion in the church, and grow as a church family as we
honestly and compassionately explore important and challenging topics. We do this in a
variety of formats, including:
a. Studying
Agapi Insight provides opportunities to study historical, linguistic, and cultural context
of the scriptural passages that have been and are used to exclude and condemn
LGBTQ individuals, relationships, and communities. We provide education about
why the Bible doesnβt condemn LGBTQ individuals or their loving monogamous
relationships. We study the scholars who have helped us come to understand about
how, as Christians, our only divine laws are the 10 Commandments and The
Greatest Commandment of our Lord Jesus Christ and how Godβs law is consistent
with a loving same-sex relationship.
b. Meeting together for encouragement, healing, and fun
We gather weekly to build community, family, and friendships, being a sanctuary for
LGBTQ individuals and their families who are looking for a social and spiritual home.
Through building encouraging, supportive relationships, Agapi Insight seeks to be a
dwelling place for all who have felt disenfranchised, marginalized, or that they didnβt
belong at the Lordβs table. We seek to be a safe-haven where all are protected,
loved, and accepted for who they are: a child of God, perfectly created in His image.
We work to be a place of refuge and shelter, for all those in need. We also work to
be a place of laughter and enjoyment, where we can let down, be ourselves, savor
good things, and have fun!
c. Share Godβs love for his LGBTQ children
We intend Agapi Insightβand all of us in this ministryβto keep growing and
encouraging growth in those around us. Through vulnerability, honesty, and
compassionate conversations we seek to share Godβs love for his LGBTQ children
and their families. We seek to nurture understanding and acceptance, not through
shouts and protest, but by reflecting Godβs love. Toward those who disagree with our
mission, we seek to be patient, kind, and respectful in our disagreement.
d. Serve together, caring for our local community
We give back to the community through acts of service such as visiting the sick,
caring for animals in need, serving those who are housebound, volunteering to
support people with disabilities, etc.
In all our activities, we seek to give hope to the LGBTQ people who are feeling in need
of a safe spiritual home.
